Ecology, environment, safety and health, ethical and economic responsibilities are the pillars in the way we do business. The ambition to constantly improve is what drives us.
Food safety starts with purchasing. We constantly monitor and control the quality of our suppliers through visits and audits. Our Purchase Manual stipulates the product specifications and certifications that we require from our suppliers.
Upon arrival at our factory in Ostend, we check via entry checks whether the product has been delivered in accordance with the purchasing specifications. Only then will the product be approved. Further quality checks are carried out during the production process.
Our factory works according to HACCP procedures and has obtained IFS and BRC certificates.
In addition, the factory has an in-house laboratory. This is where the "sensory" analyses (taste, smell, texture, color) and also a number of chemical analysis take place. Analysis for microbiology and contaminants are carried out externally by accredited laboratories.
Morubel supports the development of sustainable fisheries and responsible farming. That is why we actively promote MSC, ASC, GLOBALG.A.P and BSCI.
We also actively look for partners who meet our certificates and have them themselves.
Our employees and the people we work with in our supply chain must be treated decently and respectfully, in accordance with the employee rights as stipulated in the BSCI code of conduct. Morubel is a SEDEX B member (S000000047200) and was SMETA 4 pillar audited. Morubel complies with legal, social and environmental standards, in accordance to SMETA and this has been checked by an independent auditor (SGS).
Morubel is a member of BSCI. We do our part to improve working conditions at our suppliers from risk countries by initiating an improvement process, including social audits. Morubel sits on the BSCI Food and Primary production working group, to address specific interests in food, fisheries and aquaculture.
The demand for organic products has grown enormously in recent years. Nowadays you can buy certified organic shrimp in many countries, but what does that actually mean?
Organic shrimp are farmed with respect for the environment.
The process requires organic post-larvae with absolutely no use of chemicals or antibiotics. For animal welfare, the natural environment is approached in the best possible way.
Organic harvesting and packaging happen on the same day, creating a preservative-free product.
Our organic vannamei shrimp are originated from our sister company Seajoy. They produce premium organic quality shrimp where the production philosophy is based on the needs of the present without endangering production for future generations.
Our processing plants, such as Deli Honduras SA, are strategically located close to our farms. These locations give us the capacity to produce the highest quality shrimp as the transit time from farm to processing plant is reduced to a minimum.
We control all aspects of production, from egg to final product. We have full traceability and total control over quality. Our on-site microbiological laboratory and quality control program allow us to guarantee the safety and quality of our product.
